It’s the “little blue pill” or the new-generation “Pro” (finasteride) that has propelled the debate into a more than page five. While the FDA is still reviewing the effectiveness of finasteride in treating hair loss, the new drug, a “gradual miniaturisation” of hair follicles, has given some the appearance of being an “antiprovalent drug” or a “non-steroidal drug”. There are currently no clear cut outcomes for those at risk of experiencing male pattern baldness, and the drug’s efficacy is yet to be seen.
But while finasteride can be highly effective, it does come with side effects, and the risk is that it may not work for everyone. The medication can be dangerous to use in some patients, and some patients are not sexually active. A new study, from The Daily Mail, found that of those who experienced a drop in, and of those who experienced a rise in testosterone levels after starting the medication, about two-thirds of those who used finasteride had an increase in the testosterone levels.
While the study was published in, the dose of finasteride was not the same. In fact, studies have shown that higher doses of finasteride are associated with a more dramatic and prolonged increase in Testosterone, a marker of male pattern baldness. And the effect of the drug was more pronounced in men over the age of 55. (The Mail does not accept the idea that the drug has been linked to prostate cancer.)
We are having trouble retrieving an article by Dr Kate Fox regarding.
If you would like to add your thoughts on hair loss treatment, you can visit the Daily Mail blog
to read more articles like hers.
According to Dr Fox, “I believe that all men should have a chance at successful treatment with finasteride, because it is the only drug that is effective in lowering hair loss rates in men with male pattern baldness.” But Dr Fox points out that “it is not the drug that cures hair loss, it is the finasteride that is effective in reducing hair loss rates.” In the same vein, Dr Fox points out that “does not mean that finasteride does not work to treat hair loss. It is the finasteride that treats hair loss, and not finasteride it treats hair loss”.
In the article, Dr Fox also discusses the recent case of one patient who experienced “a drop in testosterone levels after starting the treatment.”
This case is interesting, because Dr Fox notes that in a patient who has been using the medication for a while, the dosage is changed to increase the time it takes for the medication to take effect. The patient did not experience any side effects from starting the medication, but Dr Fox thinks that “there is a possible increased risk that the drug will not work and that there may be a need for a change in the dosage of the medication to ensure that the effect does not last over the long term.”
Dr Fox also offers another perspective on finasteride’s side effects.
“Finasteride is an effective treatment for most male pattern baldness, but it does come with side effects. Some people experience side effects like sweating and hot flashes, but this is rare in men with male pattern baldness,” Dr Fox writes. “However, in most cases, these side effects are mild and can go away on their own once the medication is stopped.”
And in the article, Dr Fox also states: “I don’t know if finasteride could help a patient who was using the medication for three months, or six months, or a year.
“The patient may have taken the medication for a year, but in most cases, the medication stopped working.”
Dr Fox goes on to note, however, that in rare cases, finasteride has been linked to prostate cancer, and the article concludes that “a case of prostate cancer that has spread to the prostate should not be treated with this medicine.”
Dr Fox also cites another study which looked at the efficacy of finasteride in men with mild to moderate hair loss. It found that men who were using finasteride had a “significant increase in hair density.
